Spectrum Magazine has just published an article authored by a leading Adventist scholar in which he argued that we should not rush to modify our Guidelines on Abortion because the number of abortion is decreasing and “things are already moving in a positive direction.” I am including below the title of the article and a couple of statement from it.
“Abortion Rates and Ratios Continue Dropping in the United States”
“Abortion rates and ratios continue to decline in the United States. This is so despite the increased liberties the United States Supreme Court gave to doctors and women [in this order] in its 1973 ruling Roe v. Wade. …
We Seventh-day Adventists need not rush in revising our abortion guidelines because things are already moving in a positive direction. We can take all the time we need to do this well. Haste makes waste here, too. …”

This is like saying: “The incidence of rape and sexual abuse of children is going down. There is no need to do away with the number of exceptions under special circumstances that allow for rape and sexual abuse of children,” or “The number of car theft is diminishing; there is no need to worry about those few exception that allow for the stealing of vehicles.”
This type of faulty reasoning is coming out of our flagship Adventist universities and from highly respected writers, evangelists, and scholars. Unfortunately, I am prevented from saying a single word in defense of those who cannot speak on their own behalf. Because of my previous comments against abortion, I have been banned for life by Spectrum Magazine and some other Adventist venues.
This is why I am appealing to you. You can do what I am not allowed to accomplish. Please, share these concerns of mine with those on your mailing list, and post a comment or two on the pages of Spectrum Magazine on behalf of the unborn. The Lord will bless you for doing this!
